An AI-generated historical reconstruction of the **Battle of Petrovaradin, fought on 5 August 1716**, when the Habsburg army under Prince Eugene of Savoy defeated a much larger Ottoman force outside Petrovaradin Fortress.
I developed the episode end-to-end: historical research, narrative structure, script, visual direction, shot design, period reconstruction, AI image and video generation, sound, editing, compositing, and final delivery.
The production combined Sora, Runway, Midjourney, Midjourney Animate, ChatGPT, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, and After Effects, using different tools according to the needs of individual shots. Midjourney Animate was used for several short animated sequences where its motion treatment worked especially well with historically reconstructed still imagery.
The main challenge was reconstructing a battle that is well documented through maps, engravings, military records, and paintings, but for which no moving-image record exists. Each sequence was built from references to 1716 Habsburg and Ottoman uniforms, weapons, cavalry equipment, artillery, banners, terrain, vegetation, architecture, weather, and the historical form of Petrovaradin Fortress.
The camera language moves between large-scale formations and ground-level proximity, with cavalry, infantry, smoke, mud, horses, and artillery creating the sensation of witnessing the event from inside the battlefield rather than viewing it as a historical painting.
Every generated shot was evaluated for historical plausibility, anatomy, movement, geography, composition, camera behavior, lighting, continuity, and narrative function.
The project explores AI filmmaking as a form of visual historical reconstruction: using fragmented evidence to create moving images of events that took place centuries before cinema existed.
