Purple Patriot
Mobile App
About
Purple Patriot was founded in 2017.
Clients turned to us when they needed to make a newly redesigned version of the application. The job of the Vivify Ideas team was the development of the application’s architecture, adjustment of UX and UI and rebranding.
Purple Patriot provides you with an easy way to stay informed and active with the issues impacting your community and government. It is the single place where you can learn about the issues, engage in conversation on Facebook and X (Twitter), call your representative and locate their next town hall meeting, or other gatherings near you. It is Easy to get started and Simple to stay involved, even with a busy schedule.
Empathy
Personally, I found this project incredibly fascinating, as it aligns with the activism I strive to express through my Propaganda Department art initiative. Empowering individuals to hold their leaders accountable is the most righteous course of action for our society.
Design Process
One of the initial phases of my work process consists of creating all of the screens as low fidelity mockups. This way, the client and I can grasp the entire application look and feel early in the design process. Being proficient with graphics software like Sketch and Illustrator, I can work fast and establish a good starting point.
Since there are only a few application in this type of political niche, some introductory tutorial was in order. Shown here is one of the many modifications that we introduced during the first rollout period. The more we tested user behavior in the app, the more we figured what suits best.
Patterns
The client envisioned that scrolling in the app would use a fliping-card pattern. Due to the content that we were presenting, it was only possible as top-level browsing, and on the next drill down, we had to go with the vertical cards scrolling.
Iconography
If there is enough time and budget, I will always create the custom icon set. Drawing is my passion and building a small easily understandable image from scratch is something that I love the most.
Website
A landing page will change the punch line slogan every time you load the website. I have tried using large typographical phrases as a call to action buttons and results were great. When scrolling down, the user will figure that those were clickable and often clicked to see what will happen.

Micro website and blog were created to accompany the application. Branding of the site serves as a gentle extension of the application itself. The idea was to create something that will serve as a hub that will redirect users to the appropriate app stores.
